Heartsaver CPR/AED
This course is an instructor-led practice-while-you-watch format.
Using the AHA 2020 guidelines for Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
This course is Citizen First Responder (General Public) focused, and not intended for Healthcare Providers.
You will learn
- Single-rescuer CPR consisting of
- High-quality chest compressions
- Effective ventilations with a pocket mask
- Importance of early AED use
- Relief of airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims.
Target audience: Scout leaders, daycare workers, lifeguards, security guards, or people who need a general CPR class.
Cost: $55 for non-residents, $35 to people who live or work in Gates, Spencerport or Ogden.
The card issued is valid for 2 years.
Length of course: 3-4 hours
Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid
The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
This course is Citizen First Responder (General Public) focused, and not intended for Healthcare Providers.
You will learn
- First aid basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
- Preventing illness and injury
- Adult CPR and AED use
- Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
- Optional modules in Child CPR AED and Infant CPR
Cost: $110 for non-residents, $60 for people who live or work in Gates, Spencerport or Ogden.
The card issued is valid for 2 years.
Length of course: 4-6 hours. Most sessions do not include a lunch break, due to this, we recommend a small quiet snack.
Target audience: Scout leaders, daycare workers, lifeguards, security guards, or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.
K-12 Heartsaver CPR/AED
The K-12 Heartsaver course has the same format and information as listed under Heartsaver CPR/AED class, with a different visual style of the card, which will show the children learned these valuable skills at your school. The AHA created this card to provide a cost-effective way to train the next generation of lifesavers in the school system.
Target audience: Facility (teachers and coaches), staff (employees of school/school system), and students.
STOP THE BLEED
A bleeding injury can happen anywhere or anytime. For example, serious accidents or disasters. The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes.
You will learn
- How to recognize a life-threatening bleed.
- How to apply pressure to a wound
- How to pack a wound to control bleeding
- How to correctly apply a tourniquet
- When to use a tourniquet vs when to pack a wound to control bleeding.
- The comfort of knowing you the knowledge that will empower you to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.
Cost: Gates Volunteer Ambulance doesn’t charge for STOP THE BLEED classes. Tourniquets or other first-aid items available for purchase after class.
Length of course: 90 minutes, depending on the size of your class.
There is a minimum of 5 students per class

BLS for Healthcare Providers
This course is an instructor-led practice-while-you-watch format.
Using the AHA 2020 guidelines for Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
This course is intended for Healthcare Providers.
You will learn
- One and two-person CPR consisting of:
- High-quality chest compressions
- Effective ventilations with a barrier device
- Importance of early AED use
- The valve and importance of good team dynamics
- Relief of airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims
Target audience: Medical Professionals: doctors, nurses, nursing students, nurse’s aides, and assistants, EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters
Cost: $55 for non-residents. $35 for people who live or work in Gates, Spencerport or Ogden.
The card issued is valid for 2 years.
Length of course: 3-4 hours
